WooCommerce 3.0 (aka the “Bionic Butterfly”) has been released. This version constitutes the first major upgrade since Automattic took over, and has been in development since last August, having taken over 3000 commits from 115 contributors.
This release was originally planned to be numbered as 2.7, but Automattic has decided that from now on WooCommerce releases will use Semantic Versioning, which advises to release a major version when you make incompatible API changes, a minor version when you add functionality in a backwards-compatible manner, and a patch version when you make backwards-compatible bug fixes. You can read more about this methodology at the Semantic Versioning website.
Being a major release extra care should be taken when upgrading your WooCommerce installation to this latest version. The official WooCommerce Development Blog lists the changes and features of this version, and all technical details.
