Legacy REST API settings

Adios, Legacy REST API

At ProWoos, we are committed to keeping our clients at the forefront of WooCommerce advancements. As a leading web development agency specializing in WooCommerce-related services, we are obligated to share significant updates regarding the REST API in WooCommerce.

In 2016, WooCommerce 2.6 introduced a new REST API based on the WordPress JSON API, rendering the previous (now “Legacy”) REST API obsolete. Since its introduction, the Legacy REST API has been marked as deprecated and required manual activation from the admin area to be utilized.

Fast forward to June 2024, WooCommerce 9.0 will officially phase out the Legacy REST API. For clients who still rely on this older API, we are pleased to inform you that a separate WooCommerce extension will be available. This extension will incorporate all the necessary code from the Legacy REST API, ensuring continued functionality for those who need it.

With this new extension installed and activated in WooCommerce 9.0 and future versions, users will experience no disruption. The API clients will operate seamlessly, as they did with the Legacy REST API enabled in WooCommerce 8.9 and earlier versions. Importantly, existing client keys will remain valid, ensuring a smooth transition.

Moreover, it is essential to note that webhooks configured to utilize the Legacy REST API for payload composition (referred to as “legacy webhooks”) will cease to function with the release of WooCommerce 9.0 unless the new extension is installed. At ProWoos, we are prepared to assist you with these transitions, ensuring your webhooks and API integrations remain fully operational.

We at ProWoos are here to help you navigate these updates, providing expert support and tailored solutions to meet your WooCommerce needs. Feel free to reach out to us for any assistance or questions regarding these changes.
