Frequently Asked Questions

Installation

How do I install qTrad?Download the zip of the latest release, then in your WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload it and activate it. The settings are under Settings → Languages.
I am moving from qTranslate-X or qTranslate-XT. What should I do?Deactivate the other plugin first: qTrad does not start while another qTranslate implementation is active. Then activate qTrad. Your posts, titles, excerpts, term names, the site title and tagline and the shared qtranslate_* settings work as they are. On your first visit to wp-admin, qTrad lists what it found on your site and turns on the translation of custom fields, user profiles and options where it finds language markers. No content is changed or deleted, so qTranslate-XT can still be reactivated.

Editing

How do I edit a translation? The block editor and the classic editor show one language at a time. Choose the language with the buttons in the Languages box, edit, and save. Saving keeps every other translation, including those of languages you have disabled. If you prefer to see the complete multilingual field, choose Raw tags in the editor under Settings → Languages.
Which language markers does qTrad read? All three: the qTranslate comments <!--:en-->, the qTranslate-X brackets and the swirly brackets . With the default write format, Keep the format already in the field, each field keeps the format it already uses.
Can each language have its own address?Yes. The Translated slugs box in the editor and the fields on the category and tag screens take one slug per language, and Settings → Languages has translated URL bases such as a translated “category”. Slugs stored by qTranslate-XT are used as they are, and the old addresses redirect to the translated ones.

Compatibility

Does it work with Yoast SEO and Rank Math?Yes. qTrad adds reciprocal hreflang links, canonical URLs and multilingual sitemap entries, with WordPress core alone or together with Yoast SEO or Rank Math. The SEO translations box takes an SEO title and description per language.
Does it work with Advanced Custom Fields and WooCommerce?Yes. The qTranslate-XT field types for ACF keep working with one input per language, and standard text fields can be translated with their Translate setting. In WooCommerce, product, attribute, payment, shipping and email texts are shown in the visitor’s language, and customer emails are sent in the language of the order.
How do I add a language switcher?Use the qTrad Language Chooser widget or the shortcode [qtrad_switcher style="both"]. Language menu items created with qTranslate-X or qTranslate-XT keep working in classic menus, and existing qTranslate widgets keep their place.

Updates & uninstall

How do I update the plugin?New versions appear in Dashboard → Updates like any other plugin.
What happens to my translations if I uninstall qTrad? They stay. Uninstalling keeps your content, the qtranslate_* settings, term and SEO translations and qTrad’s own settings, and removes only data qTrad derives for itself.
